Columbus Day is Monday

Seven hours of court really wears you out. But, tomorrow looks good and I'm going to Apia after work. I was going to go to Ofu but the flight schedule is not so conducive for attracting business. There's really no reason to go to Ofu unless you are going for a vacation or weekend. Nonetheless, the Friday flight leaves at 11am, which would be fine if you were already on vacation, but if you work here it is no good. My schedule looks so good for Friday at the moment that it is now possible I could be done with court by 1030 or so, but even that is too late to make the flight. Plus, most others couldn't make it. I could take the Saturday flight, but there is no Saturday flight. So no Ofu.

Instead, we're stuck going to Western Samoa again.

Probably half of what is left of the Association is going to Western this weekend too. We're kind of scattered as far as where we're staying, but it should still be a good time.

One bad thing about going this weekend is that I'm going to miss the Seahawks/Steelers GAME.

Ben should be scared.

They don't have this guy:

Or this guy:

Seahawks 31
Stealers 10

What are you all doing for Columbus Day? What?! You don't get it off? That is crazy- it is such an important holiday. Didn't you read about when Columbus discovered America(n Samoa)?

Movie review:

Idiocracy
6.5 It is about this place in some ways. Check it out. It is especially like some of the writing I get in some police reports and some of what I've heard about legislative hearings here.

Anyone paying attention to what the Rockies have done and are doing? It is crazy!

Residents can now keep miniature goats as pets in Seattle, the City Council decided this afternoon.

The bill was sponsored by Councilmember Richard Conlin, who called it a small step for sustainability.

"They do provide milk and cheese to people who are allergic to cow's milk, and they can be used to take care of brush in people's yards," said Conlin. "They are also another link to the reality of where food comes from."

Minigoats, which include pygmy and dwarf goats, are about the size of a large dog, weighing between 50 and 100 pounds.

Jennie Grant, a Madrona resident who keeps minigoats, approached Conlin after a neighbor asked the city to investigate whether the pets posed a danger to public health.

Grant started the Goat Justice League, which now has 100 members, to lobby council to make the goats legal pets. Conlin said his office researched public health risks and they are low.

"We would be a really charming city if we were a place people could keep minifarms with chickens, goats, a vegetable garden and fruit trees," said Grant, who keeps chickens in addition to her goats.

Under the previous land-use code, farm animals could not be kept on lots smaller than 20,000 square feet. The law passed Monday classified minigoats as a small animal rather than a farm animal, and it requires that they be licensed, just like dogs, cats, exotic animals and potbellied pigs.

THIS IS YOUR STINK PROBLEM MASS:

An unneutered male goat or donkey "does tend to have a smell about him," said Ray Hoyt, president of the National Pygmy Goat Association. He described it as "musky." Male goats and donkeys would have to be neutered, under the proposed law, and all goats would have to be dehorned, a practice Shulman called common.

However, Minigoats are friendlier than donkeys, said Hoyt, who lives in Minden, Nev. "They wag their tails and come and meet you, they know their names, and they never leave clothes all over their bedroom floors."

He said the goats and donkeys are outside animals but need shelter to keep them dry. Minigoats, which start at $100 each (donkeys are like 0.17), do better in pairs and herds than alone, he said.

"They do real well interacting with others," he said. "They play and butt heads with each other, and play king of the mountain and do goat things. With donkeys, courtesy reach-arounds are common"

Hoz- You should try to a use a non-offical copy of your birth cert again.

Masser- You're so lucky to get to spend the weekend in nice, sunny, warm, *insert adjective here*, WS.

Meanwhile, we get this headline in today's Seattle Times:

"No one will enjoy themselves if they're outside" this weekend

What crap. I swear that we get nothing off here. However crappy daycare is closed all the time so Brian gets to stay home today. Yeah, I read about the goats when it was being proposed that you would be able to keep them as pets in Seattle...What a good law. I don't know why it was even in question. Goats are good, good, good.
