Ray Allen traded

At first I was disgusted. But, maybe it is not that bad.
I hate to give up Allen becuase he's the best shooter in the world. But:
- they haven't done much lately with him
- they got a high pick who will have a low salary
- they got Delonte West who makes like $1M/year and is getting pretty good
OK, never mind. This trade sucks. Why get rid of Ray and then take on two years of Wally making near the max. You unload Ray's max salary, but you have to pay that to someone. Shouldn't it be the best shooter in the league instead of not the best shooter in the league? If this was football it would be a good trade, but since you can only play 5 guys at a time, I don't understand.

I think that the trade is a good one on paper. Allen is the best shooter in the league, but he is at the point of his career where you can't depend on him to remain healthy for all 81 games. We would have never been able to get this value for him again, unless the Bucks bailed us out again like they did for Payton.

We all thought when we signed Allen to the big deal that he would be over-priced in the last few years. Now that is someone else's problem, and we got a #5 pick out of it. Yeah, Wally sucks, but there is no avoiding getting a crappy contract back in this type of deal. If you had to get a crappy contract back, you could do worse than Wally.

Where this deal hurts is in the peripherals of Allen's direct GAME contributions. It was mentioned on KJR this morning, and I think that it is a good point, that the most successful public campaign to save the Sonics in Seattle would be one led by both Allen and Durrant. Now we lose Allen from that, which could be critical. The other loss is that Durrant could probably develop further next year with Allen on the floor. Now, the defense only needs to focus on Durrant.

I was excited when the trade was announced, because I wanted to get the PG from Ohio State. Then, we could have marketed Conelly adn Durrant as the next Payton and Kemp. Oh well, hopefully this Green kid will work out (too bad he isn't Blue).

I'm convinced now that Lewis will be involved in a sign-and-trade. Presti says that he fits in well with the new additions, but I don't buy it. We need a #2 guard now. I wonder if Portland's trade was maneuvering to make a move on Lewis. Would you trade Lewis for Francis and Martell? Probably a bad one. Too bad Portland couldn't have gotten Crawford instead of Francis, I would trade Lewis for Crawford and Martell.

As soon as Neil and Connie get there, I want to see him in a manskirt. Do you have one ready for him?

Hargrove Resigned! What strange timing too, when the M's are doing the best that they have done under his time here.

What an eventful week+ of sports this has been (from weekend-to-weekend) - Griffey's return, the sweep of the Red Sox, drafting Durrant, trading Ray Allen, and now the resignation of Hargrove.

I was at the game today--it was very weird to hear about Hargrove's resignation. Strange!

I agree with KC on pretty much all aspects of the trade expect for suck ass Wally. We did need to take one of their big contracts but we should have pushed for Ratliff and his expiring contract rather than Wally's two year deal. We also could have taken Pierce if they really wanted to clear cap room.
Wally is the worst player on their roster based on cost.
Francis = yuk.
The ButtBlazers should give us Martell and BRoy for Lewis, Ridnour and cash considerations.

The BB might give us Martell for Rashard (though I doubt it) but I doubt they'd trade B Roy for anything. The only thing they could possibly consider would be for a young dominating center like Oden but they already have him.

I don't know if it's possible, but I'd like to try to get Jason Terry from Dallas. He is passionate about keeping the Sonics in Seattle, and I think could be a big plus in getting the fans enthused. I'd be willing to forgive his traitorism to UW if he could help save the Sonics.

Scooter sucks, Bush is pathetic.

Well, it's now a mute point, Rashard is going to walk for nothing. I don't really blame the Sonics - I think it would be a bigger mistake to give him the contract that Orlando is giving him. As for a sign-and-trade, nothing really looks appealing on the Orlando roster that they would be willing to give up.

Why is it that I have to go to the Weave's blog to get updates on what you're doing?!?
